March Mindfulness

Hello Parents!
I sincerely appreciate your patience this last month as we get used to the new features of the “Sessions” video-calling platform. With the March Break around the corner, I thought this month I might share some tips on relaxing, recharging, and practicing mindfulness.
I also want to let you all know that I will be away from March 11th-20th and will resume teaching on March 21st. Please reach out to me if you would like to reschedule your child’s classes. Otherwise, I will assume you prefer to resume classes once I’m back (without rescheduling the missed lessons). I wish you and your family an enjoyable March Break!

This Month's Topic: March Mindfulness
How can I help my child recharge during the March Break?
Sometimes a break can feel like it was never really a break. We all want the kids to return to school feeling refreshed and ready to learn, right? This is easier said than done. Many kids find themselves playing video games, watching Netflix, or completing assignments the whole week. Unfortunately, this leaves them feeling even more drained than before. A little mindfulness can go a long way!
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. It may be what you’re feeling, hearing, or anything else you notice. There’s no special place of calm you have to reach and it’s not about clearing your mind, it’s just an honest and kind look at what you’re experiencing in this moment.
Three Benefits of Mindfulness for Kids
1. Increased focus, attention, self-control, classroom participation, compassion.
2. Improved academic performance, ability to resolve conflict, overall well-being.
3. Decreased levels of stress, depression, anxiety, disruptive behavior.

Programs to Discover: Mindvalley’s Courses for Kids
Last summer, I visited Mindvalley University in Estonia where I got to work with amazing people exploring personal development. I had the pleasure of being a speaker on the topic of education and overcoming limiting beliefs in learning. Here I am having the time of my life!

Why am I sharing this all of a sudden?
Mindvalley offers a number of online courses for adults and youth focusing on personal development, health, fitness, spirituality, business, and much more. My mother and I have been taking their courses over the last few years and we are big fans of their short and easy video lesson formats. If your kids find themselves having extra time during the March Break, perhaps you can encourage them to invest in their personal growth and well-being.
And no, unfortunately I don’t get paid to advertise for Mindvalley. (I wish!) I’m just sharing a platform that I believe might be able to help your kids do a bit of personal discovery over the break.
What can my child learn through Mindvalley?
When it comes to the kids programs, your children have the opportunity to learn more about their purpose, talents, and how to develop great social connections. I have met both of the instructors myself and find them to be lovely people with a lot of wisdom to share. If you end up taking the courses, feel free to let me know what you think!

Questions to Consider: 🤔
1. How can we incorporate mindfulness practices over the March Break to help everyone in the family re-charge?
2. Would my child benefit from more personal development, reflection, and introspection over the break? How can a parent facilitate this?
3. How can I help my child maintain a healthy and relaxing routine over the March Break?

Thank you for making it to the end of this newsletter! You are welcome to send me responses, but don't stress because this content is made for your reading/learning pleasure. I hope you enjoyed the information and discovered something new!
I wish you and your family happy learning!
Kind regards,
